When Claude Code Compacts, the Agent Still Knows

The summary keeps the outcome. The decisions stay with you.

Claude Code fills the window. Then it compacts. The next turn gets a summary of the session, not the session. The decisions, the dead ends, and the reason the code looks the way it does were in the context that just got rewritten.

When the chat dies, the agent still knows. Compaction is one way the chat dies. The memory has to be yours.

For this tool: Claude Code. The same future when the window closes: when the chat dies.

Pro is live. $9/month.

Encrypted memory for Claude Code. Scheduled snapshots. Cloud storage you can search. Card today. No waitlist.

A summary is not the session

Compaction is doing its job. The window is finite. Claude Code writes a digest so the session can continue.

The digest keeps the latest plan, the files it touched, and a short account of the outcome. It does not keep the approach you already rejected, the constraint you said once, or the dead end that explains the helper. The repo still has the diff. It does not have the judgment.

Keep that judgment outside the window

SaveState snapshots Claude Code: CLAUDE.md, project memory under .claude/, and the global settings the next session needs. Each snapshot is a SaveState Archive, encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it leaves the machine. You hold the passphrase.

Search it later. Restore it on another machine. The compact can run. The agent still knows why the code looks the way it does.

Pro is the path a stranger can take

The CLI is open source. That is the developer path. The product a stranger can buy today is SaveState Pro, $9/month:

  • Scheduled auto-backups
  • Cloud storage (10GB)
  • All platform adapters
  • Search across snapshots
  • Web dashboard
  • Email alerts on backup failures

Need shared snapshots and an audit log? Team is $29/month.

There is no waitlist. The Payment Link is live.

Keep the memory. Let the chat compact.

Subscribe to Pro. The Claude Code that knew why this code looks this way still knows after the summary.

Prefer the CLI first? Install from npm

If you live in the terminal

Pro does not replace the CLI. It sits on top of it. Developers who want the local path first:

npm install -g @savestate/cli
savestate init
savestate snapshot

Then subscribe when you want scheduled cloud snapshots and search you did not have to host.
